The Nature of Addiction

I found this very moving little clip called "Nuggets" the other day.

It is a very touching animation about the nature of addiction.

In my own life I got addicted to a lot of different things over the years.

It took me a while to finally figure out that addiction is a condition that is based in seeking relief in something outside of oneself and that the addictive agent is in fact interchangeable. If you change your addictions a lot, its pretty hard to notice that there is a problem. I changed my addicitions a lot which kept me in denial about the condition itself for quite some time during the earlier years of my life until it became clear and I found a life without the need to soothe myself with external means.

Once you realize that you have an addiction problem/addicitive personality yourself you can find help.

Its out there and there are many famous people who have battled addiction with the help of 12 step groups and other means like hypnosis and are clean ever since.

People that come to mind are Russel Brand, Craig Ferguson and countless others.

When I saw this little film it I was so moved by it. It shows the reality of addiction and displays very well how it works.

If you are seeing this and you are suffering from any form of addiction, just know that there is help and there is a way out of it.

With substance abuse stepping beyond denial and admitting to oneself that one has a problem is the first step. You gotta admit to yourself that you are fucked up in that area of your life. Then you have to have the desire change and belief that change is possible once you seek out help.

With that level of self honesty comes great humility and also the power to change!

Also know that asking for help is a very, very brave thing to do. It's not a sign of weakness at all.

Like Russel Brand desribes it in his own words, an interpretation of the 12 step process to recovery from addiction, everybody with an addiction problem should ask themselves these questions and honestly answer:

Step 1: Are you a bit fucked?

Step 2: Could you not be fucked?

Step 3: Are you on your own going to unfuck yourself?

Check out my programs and shoot me a message if you are ready to change!

Talk to you soon,

Oliver
